Portrait Photography Perth

Professional portrait photography is a special type of photography. The aim is to capture an expression, mood or feeling in a single exposure and to draw the viewer into the world of the subject.

One way to do this is through portraiture - making portraits. To make a portrait means more than taking someone's picture: it means capturing their soul!

Cobo Photography is a portrait photographer based in Perth, Australia. We provide the best portrait photography services. We love people and we love Perth portrait photography, so we think that the combination of the two makes for great portrait photos.

Portrait Photography Posing Ideas

Posing can be one of the most frustrating parts of portrait photography Perth. Depending on your taste, it may also be one of the most enjoyable. Either way, posing can make or break a photograph.

Let's start with body language. It is important to mention that people who pose for portraits often feel slightly uneasy at first because they don't know how they should behave. The following tips will help you during a portrait photoshoot:

  • Relax your face. If possible, it is also a good idea to relax your whole body. Even if you feel stiff and nervous, try to help your muscles relax by taking deep breaths or focusing on one spot.
  • Lean slightly forward. This position will make you look more open and friendly in photographs. Avoid crossing your arms over your chest because this will hide the shape of your bust and waist.
  • Tilt your head slightly. Tilting it a few degrees to one side will help the portrait photographers Perth frame the shot better. If you have a naturally round face, tilting your head can also give you a more elongated look.

If you follow these simple rules, your portrait pictures are going to turn out much better.

Now let's see the actual posing ideas. Most of them are based on the assumption that you will pose in front of a simple background but feel free to experiment with these poses if there is anything interesting in your surroundings. The main thing is to make sure the light falls on you well enough so that your features are clearly visible.

  • Straight on the shot. This is the simplest form of a headshot and it's not hard to imagine why. Posing in front of the camera straight-on makes you look more elegant and confident, although it can sometimes be boring for people who aren't used to posing for portraits.
  • Overcoming shyness. To strike an interesting pose straight-on, try imagining that you're a model and that a camera lens is a person whose attention you want to attract. Unfortunately, the most common mistake for beginners is trying too hard – they often end up looking self-consciously ridiculous. If you find yourself in this situation, the best thing to do is relax and try to enjoy the experience.
  • The "smiling eyes" pose. This is a way of showing your teeth in photos without looking silly. Smile and then look into the camera using your smiling eyes: imagine that you're talking to someone and not posing for a photo at all. It might sound strange, but it works every time.
  • Relaxed pose. The "relaxed pose" is a way of telling a story about yourself. Sit or stand in a casual, relaxed manner and try to look as if you were going about your everyday life – this will make viewers think they know you better even though they see you for the first time.
  • Natural smile. This is another simple idea that may suit outgoing personalities. If you're able to look relaxed when smiling, this is the right pose for you. However, if forced smiles make you uncomfortable or even hurt your face, try looking away or closing your eyes instead.
  • Natural gaze. To make yourself appear natural and confident at the same time, it can be helpful to look in a slightly different direction than the camera lens. This makes it seem like you're looking in that direction and not directly at the viewer.
  • Exposing your neck. If you want to look more elegant, try turning slightly to one side and exposing your neck – this pose will make it look longer and slimmer. However, avoid tilting your head too much – doing so will only emphasize the roundness of your face and accentuate any double chin you may have.
  • Half-turned pose. This natural angle is perfect if you want to show off your good side and hide anything that might look unflattering from a straight-on angle: for example, a large nose or full cheeks. However, make sure not to make your pose too exaggerated.

Everything you need to know

Of course. I will not take any photographs that you do not feel comfortable with. That goes for maternity, newborn sessions. Also, If you aren’t comfortable with me sharing images on social media or my blog, I certainly would not do so.

Absolutely. I understand that this is a hectic time for you, so I want to make your session as easy and streamlined as possible. I do prefer to photograph in a room that’s extremely well lit with natural light, so just make sure that’s available. And, of course, you can always come to my home studio.

Ultimately, what you wear depends on what you’re comfortable in. That said, I recommend clothing showcases your baby bump. Empire dresses belted under the bust and stretchy fabrics are two of my favorites. I’d avoid anything extremely loose.

I think some of the best maternity photos are taken between the seven and eight month mark. This is when you’re really showing, but isn’t so close to your due that you’re really uncomfortable.

Yes we supply all props, however if you have something special please feel free to bring it along.

YES of course. Although technically speaking these are not ‘Wedding Photojournalism’ I understand some are wanted & therefore happy to allocate time during the day.

You can expect at least 55 images every hour covered. It all depends on how much is happening during the time of the wedding. Day wedding is around 10 hours so you can expect around 650 to 950 images

A perfect time to book is 6 months in advance. On the busiest popular months you might have to book 1 year in advance, always depends of my calendar.

Absolutely YES. I look for these everywhere throughout the day. You will have spent a lot of time and effort choosing these and I am keen to record them for you.

No. The price list and packages outlines exactly what is included.
